The Mythmaker Western Romance Series

Along with Johnny Two Hats, Elizabeth sets out to find her adopted Indian family. As Mythmaker searches, Johnny is drawn to a Kiowa prophet who promises the return of the buffalo. Skeptical and at odds with Johnny over their future, Mythmaker must make a choice.

As a Paiute messiah arises in Nevada, the tribes of the Central Plains are all too eager to hear and accept his message. And what a message it is - that the earth will shift to swallow up the white people, that the Indian dead will arise and walk their native lands again, and with them, the cherished buffalo. This new religion is called the Ghost Dance. Mythmaker, born Elizabeth McFarland, fears the army will use violence to quell this messianic tide.

Mythmaker's foster son, Magpie, has also come home to the reservation. Christened Peter Donaldson, he is reunited with Mythmaker and joins her in her quest to find the Ghost Dance. This story is one of hope seized and lost, of ghosts sought and not found, of finding a place in the shifting times for the Kiowa during the turbulent days leading up to the Battle of Wounded Knee.

Although the Tracy Dunham MYTHMAKER SERIES books are traditionally classified under our Western category, we did want to mention this series in our Romance category as well since these books compromise a very moving and touching love story and saga of a woman named Elizabeth McFarland sho survives capture by the Kowa tribe and becomes a healer known to her clan as Mythmaker, and the half-Comanche man known as Johnny Two Hats who becomes her husband.

A graduate of Hollins College and the T. C. Williams School of Law, Tracy Dunham has been writing since the third grade. She lives in Richmond, Virginia, with her husband and two daughters, who are avid readers and writers themselves. She enjoys researching American history, and has lived west of the Mississippi before becoming an Easterner.
