AN AVALON MYSTERY
Deadly Arts
by Elizabeth Wetzel

Genevieve Galway is not looking for trouble. She is teaching English at St. Philomena's High School, playing gin rummy, minding her own business. Then Mark Duchat, a nasty art critic for the local paper, is found murdered at the Cromwell Gallery. And the primary suspect is Traci Beaupre, a young artist and teacher at St. Phil's. Convinced that Traci is innocent, Gen easily assembles a list of other suspects. Duchat had a talent for offending people - from local artists Clint Madison and Omega Starlight to Traci's former boyfriend, Donald Tomcyk. Gen's unlikely ally in her investigations is Sister Madonna, famous both for her matchmaking and rule-bending. By the time Gen and Sister Madonna have put the picture together, another victim falls, and Gen appears to be next on the list.

Elizabeth Wetzel has written short fiction, non-fiction and humor for twenty years. She is the author of a humor book, A is for Aggravation: An Alphabet Book for Parents. A former high school English teacher, she naturally chose an intrepid teacher to solve her first mystery, Deadly Arts. She lives in Medina, Ohio, with her husband, John, where she is working on the next case to puzzle the irrepressible Genevieve Galway.

"The first novel about Genevieve Galway, a middle-aged Catholic high school English teacher who turns detective when a poisonous small-town art critic is murdered, is a traditional whodunit written in an unpretentious style. The humor and narrative touches are less forced, and the puzzle plot fairer and fuller, than in many novels from the majors."   - Ellery Queen Mystery Magazine
