John Ranger is a widower who lives in the small community of Rushing River Junction in Northern California. Lately, there has been an illegal attempt to mine the mountain behind his property; which will destroy the mountain and leave cyanide and other toxic wastes in the water.

Working to stop the destruction, John becomes close to his neighbor, Faith Christine. Cautious about starting a new romance since he still misses his wife, he is drawn into the mystery behind the gruesome murders that rattle his small, isolated community. Is someone seeking revenge? Or is something more sinister going on? Secret after secret is revealed as John begins his dangerous hunt for the murderer and the truth.

Marjorie M. McGinley began to write in college while she attended Western Connecticut State University. She stopped for awhile when she was raising a family and teaching elementary school, and then began again. She has had many short stories and poems published, and has written two prize-winning plays.

Marjorie was born in Nyack, New York, and grew up in rural Connecticut. She lives on the Connecticut shoreline.

Close Enough to Kill is Marjorie’s sixth novel for AVALON and her first mystery.
