Finding the killer of a woman she doesn't know, and has never even seen, is not the kind of case Demary Jones has ever tackled before. She agrees to give it a try only because the victim's husband is a friend. And also, the case has one very interesting aspect: the victim had been declared dead three years previous to being found with her throat cut in her ex-husband's garage. There doesn't seem to be any motive for the murder, at least not to start with, but as Demary inquires into the dead woman's background, she finds motives aplenty, culminating, finally, in the one that caused her death, and very nearly causes Demary's death as well.
