A Sam McKall Mystery
In the quiet desolation of an Indian Reservation an 80-year-old woman takes a fatal fall in her shower. Across the state an attractive young professional is stalked by an unknown assailant intimately aware of her every move. In a walnut-paneled board room utility executives are planning a controversial project for Utah's west desert. And although he doesn't yet know it, reluctant sleuth Sam McKall is back in business.
Blissfully unaware of these events, Sam is settling into his new job as Chief of Staff to troubled Governor LeGrand Beckstead when reporter Wayne 'Smitty" Smith becomes suspicious about the proposed utility project and a string of "accidental" deaths. When his investigation becomes entangled in a string of governmental roadblocks, Smitty is forced to elicit Sam's help.
After a few simple inquiries made on Smitty's behalf, Sam finds the facts in the stalking case have been misconstrued to point in his direction and he is now the target of a police investigation. The only way to keep the shocking allegations out of the media and reclaim his life is to find the elusive link between the string of tragic deaths before the police can make their case against him.
