When Christine Hunter meets former high school heartthrob, Jake Reynolds again, he is rushing into the local emergency room with his sister, Anna. Jake is the youngster's sole guardian and he enlists Christine's help since she is a nurse. It's obvious that Jake is out of his depth when it comes to raising a girl, so reluctantly, Christine agrees to help him.

As her feelings for Jake grow, Christine finds herself confused by his intentions, especially since they spend little time alone. Of course she's glad to help, but can Jake look at her as more than just a friend? Is it possible that deeper matters could develop from their hearts?

Terry Zahniser McDermid was born in Des Moines, Iowa, and spent the next eighteen years moving around the United States. She met her husband, Bob, a native of Los Angeles, when she attended Graceland College in Lamoni, Iowa, where she received a business administration and teaching degree. They now live in the Midwest with their two sons.

Writing and teaching have always been connected for Terry and she has written articles, short stories, and lessons for the educational market, in addition to an educational resource text. She currently teaches kindergarden and loves the stories that she sees daily in her classroom, finding that they help her discover new ideas about which to write.
