Teacher Brenda Harrison is nervous about her summer job writing a book for wealthy racecar driver, Alexander Stone. Once she meets him she falls hopelessly in love but hides it while completing the book for Alexander's parents' anniversary.
As a sports car designer, racecar driver and heir to an impressive collection of rare and valuable antique cars, Alexander wants this book to be absolutely perfect. He has little faith in her ability to write competently about cars. He feels she is unqualified but when she encourages him to follow his dream of designing cars and proves to be a very capable and savvy writer, he begins to change his mind.
Once he realizes he loves her, he wants her to give up her job as a teacher in a tough, inner-city school and become his full-time wife. She is devastated that he wants her to give up her goals and career.
It looks as though their worlds are falling apart. However, their love for each other helps them to make the necessary compromises and realize that both their dreams have come true.
Ludima Gus Burton retired from teaching in 1978. She and her husband had three glorious retirement years before he died of a heart attack in 1981. She now lives with her daughter, Daphne, son-in-law, Peter, and a grandson, Matthew. Her other daughter, Jennifer, lives six miles away.
When she wrote her first novel in long hand, on lined paper, in 1991, at the age of 71, in six weeks she thought it was perfect. Alas, the editors didn't.
For the next eight years she joined RWA, went to conferences and workshops and wrote five more novels. Her childhood dream was realized with the publication of her first novel for AVALON - Only for A Year - at age 80! One is never too old to make a dream come true.
"Never give up on your dream," Ludima says. The Tycoon and the Schoolteacher is her second romance novel for AVALON.
